Ponderings of Grace - Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe

How does this happen to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? - Luke 1:43

Elizabeth poses this question to Mary as she welcomes her cousin to her home in Judea.

Enfolding...
wrapped in a welcoming mantle of love...

St. Juan Diego again poses this question to the Virgin Mary as she appears to him on Tepayac Hill, not as a European Madonna, but as a beautiful Aztec princess. The Virgin answers him in his own native Aztec language: "Juanito, Juan Diequite, let not your heart be disturbed. Do not fear...any pain or anguish. Am I not here who is your Mother? Is there anything you need?

Enfolding...gifting...
Wrapped in a welcoming mantle of love...

We, Sisters of Saint Joseph and Associates, recognize with particular clarity the miseries of people throughout the world on both the local and global levels. We affirm that justice is a constitutive element of the gospel message. Our mission of unity then, seeks to change the conditions which cause poverty, suffering, and oppression. (SSJ Constitutions)

Enfolding...gifting...welcoming...
Wrapped in a mantle of love...

And so we pray...Ever welcoming, ever generous Mother of the Americas, we pray this day for the poor and for all immigrants who seek refuge in our country to support their families. May they find welcome and encouragement through our generosity and hospitality! Amen.
