Ponderings of Grace from Saint Mary by-the-Sea Feast of the Nativity

FEAST OF THE BIRTH OF JESUS

                                    Isaiah 62: 11-12; Titus 3: 4-7

           Luke 2: 15-20

Mary, like you, we sit cold beside a make-shift stable. We, too, await a birth that will change the world.   The birth we anticipate is not a human birth, a flesh and blood birth. It is more a birth of a new, life-giving spirit.

Our world, our country aches for peace of mind. It needs a surge of goodness this Christmas more than ever! A starving economy has cast enormous fear in the hearts of many. We ache for a renewal of integrity, for a justice echoing wisdom and strength, for peace in all hearts, especially in the hearts of the poor, the lonely, and the suffering.

As we wait, we pray for the bruised reeds among us....those whom today's economy, inequality, and seeming indifference, continue to crush. We pray for decency strong enough to eradicate the rampant immorality. We pray that Jesus will be born anew in the hearts of many, renewing the face of our earth, one person at a time.
