Ponderings of Grace From Saint Mary by-the-Sea Second Sunday of Advent

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT

                          Isaiah 40:   1 - 5, 9 -11; 2 Peter 3: 8:15

                      Mark 1: 1-8

I am sending my messenger ahead of you -
who will prepare the way -
the voice crying out in the wilderness, preparing the way of God.

John the Baptist, the one called to prepare the way of God; the one who cried out in the wilderness; the one who ate locusts and wild honey. John, often portrayed as a bit strange.   How could I possibly believe this person?

Yet, I wonder, is John’s call really any different from my call....from your call?   Aren’t we called to go up on a mountain and shout with a loud voice, Here is Your God?    Aren’t we called to be a voice in the wilderness, preparing a way for the Most High God ?     Aren’t we called to be the courageous voice that speaks out against injustice and works tirelessly to bring about the new heavens and new earth where God’s justice will reside?

As we enter this 2 nd Week of Advent, may we be drawn deeply into the heart of God, listening to the Voice calling to us.

·          What grace is being offered?

·          Are we open to receiving this grace?

·          Are we willing to be transformed?
