John 10:27-30

I am the good shepherd, says Jesus Christ.

I know my sheep, and mine know me.--Alleluia verse

 

Although Jesus' comparing us to sheep has never been one of my favorite images, today's gospel does bring great comfort. This shepherd guards and protects and keeps us from harm as we hear his voice and follow. What a great sense of security and care can be ours!

 

How do I allow Jesus to know this sheep of his?

How well do I truly hear and follow his voice--

--in the silent stillness?

--in Scripture?

--in another person?

--in creation?
