Beloved

"Take your son Isaac, your only one, whom you love.....offer him as a holocaust..."

Who of us could even think of following such a command?

Who is my "Isaac"?

Is my faith strong enough to carry me through trials such as this?

The passage from Genesis 22:1-2, 9a, 10-13, 15-18 foreshadows Mark 9: 2-10:

the high mountain,
the cloud,
the voice:      "This is my beloved Son."

And the promise of blessing spoken to Abraham is given:

Our brother Jesus comes to live,

suffer and die with us, beloved,
so that we may rise with him.
