In loving memory
We sadly share that Sister Ann Raymond Rafter died unexpectedly and peacefully in her room at St. Joseph Villa, Flourtown on Friday, May 22, 2020. Sr. Ann served as the faithful Director of Saint Mary by-the-Sea Retreat House from 1989 to 2010. Remembered by many for her gentle manner, she will be missed by many who came to know and love her.
While Sr. Ann rejoices in her new life with our God, we remember all those who grieve her sudden death. St. Joseph Villa will have a private burial for Sr. Ann and celebrate her life with a Memorial Mass when we are able.
+ Rest in the loving arms of Our God, Ann!

We send our prayer and hope that, however, and wherever you are living with the COVID-19 pandemic, you are experiencing support, grace, and peace. As we continually look at the COVID-19 reports in New Jersey, although the state is showing progress, it leads the nation in new cases, hospitalizations and deaths. Even when the state starts to reopen, we know that the restrictions would be difficult to implement at Saint Mary by-the-Sea Retreat House, Cape May Point, NJ.
Therefore, after much prayer and discussion, we have decided that Saint Mary by-the-Sea will be closed for retreats and events in June, July, August and September 2020. This also includes any off-season activities scheduled at Saint Joseph House and Queen of the Sea.
Let us continue to pray for each other and for our world as we move through these trying days. Thank you for all the ways you are bringing hope and joy to others!
God bless you!
The General Council Administrator of Saint Mary by-the-Sea
Sisters Maureen, Eileen, Teresa, Owen, and Karen Sister Sharon
